Calvary Lutheran of Millbrae

Towards the end of 2013 and into 2014, Calvary Lutheran and Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church took time to consider the potential for collaborative ministry.  Various activities were shared between Calvary, Peace and Our Redeemer’s Lutheran so that people could experience what this ministry opportunity might feel like in concrete ways.

Activities included joint worship services, call committee and council meeting discussions, Calvary Q&A sessions, morning breakfast gatherings, and formal music concerts so that people from all three churches could participate, provide feedback, and make an informed decision.

On October 5, 2014, Calvary Lutheran Church approved and extended a call to Pastor John Kuehner. This two year term call continued efforts to realize collaborative ministry for the North Peninsula communities and consider a more formal joint ministry structure.

We continued to pray, dream and challenge ourselves in 2014 and 2015 around what God had in store for us. We considered, stretched and allowed our ministries to collaborate together.

On October 18, 2015 both congregations formally affirmed their desire to become Unity Lutheran Church. With many logistical considerations, the effective date will be determined in the future by our councils, but we are excited by both congregation’s commitment to move toward and embody this wonderful opportunity!
